The Blue Sky

The Blue Sky

So, right around this time last year in Japan, I was eagerly awaiting signs of spring, and dieing for a glimpse of blue sky like the picture I took right around this time last year. This year isn't so terribly different (in respect to the comment I just made) than the last. I'm eagerly awaiting signs of spring, and dieing for a glimpse of blue sky like the picture I took right around this time last year.

grins Yes. I wrote what I wrote on purpose because I meant to write what I wrote. hehehe Language is just too much fun sometimes. :) And I think I need more sleep.

International Banquet...

Paul posted this picture on his blog quite a while ago, but I DID promise a picture, so here it is. :)

The theme was glimpses of "Africa"... and we had a blast! (And the food was DELICIOUS!) Paul and I got a table with Rea and Phil Holcomb, Dan and Laura (now both!) Kilpatrick, and Eileen Frawley and Dan Holcomb. It was a great time to catch up with friends and profs alike, and meet some people too. :) Afterwards, Paul and I helped in the kitchen cleaning up till almost midnight. Hurray for a discount on tickets and FREE INTERNATIONAL FOOD! hehehehe

snow dunes

Last weekend (2 weekends ago) as I was driving to Houghton, I came across these not too far from my house. Backroads are made for times like this, when you can pull your car over and stand in the middle of the road to take a picture without fear of getting hit. grins Beautiful, eh?

Poetry for the Substitute Teacher

A poem from Please Mrs Butler, verses by Allan Ahlberg, lent to me by Meic, Ann, and Rhian Pearse, and Oh so very funny. :)

Supply Teacher

Here is the rule for what to do
Whenever your teacher has the flu,
Or for some other reason takes to her bed
And a different teacher comes instead.

When this visiting teacher hangs up her hat,
Writes the date on the board, does this or that;
Always remember, you must say this:
'Our teacher never does that, Miss!'

When you want to change places or wander about,
Or feel like getting the guinea-pig out,
Never forget, the message is this:
'Our teacher always lets us, Miss!'

Then, when your teacher returns next day
And complains about the paint or clay,
Remember these words, you just say this:
'That other teacher told us to, Miss!'

hahahaha This carries so much more meaning after having substitute taught for almost a month! ;)

Painting...

Sorry. No pics of International Banquet yet, Noel. :) They're pending Paul's sending them to me from his camera. So until the time of their arrival, I'll update a bit of what I've been doing, or trying to do, the past couple of days (and finally succeeded in doing today).

Painting my room. :)

And today was the Painting of the Ceiling. [trumpets sound fanfare]

Before I started... I moved my bed and dressers and shelf to the middle of my room. And I took this picture before I finished covering everything with sheets and newspapered my windows and the remainder of my floor...

About to start!

In the process...

Almost finished. Notice the HUGE difference between white and "fresh dew" green. ;) Hey, it's a start. grins Next, the border is to come off. (Bye bye horsies. *sniff. tear.*)
And to end the event, I fell off the end of my bed while trying to paint around the light ficture and into my dresser (the tall one on the right whose big oval mirror is covered with green and white sheets), breaking a scrolly piece holding up the mirror (and almost my leg. Instead I have a nice big bruise there.). Thank you, Lord, for wood glue. Otherwise I would be very very dead (the act of death being committed against me by my mom). grins All is well. Glue dries and bruises heal. :)
